Wayne Messam was born on June 7, 1974 in South Bay, Florida. He attended Florida State University where he played football and earned a B.S. in management and information systems. Messam started a construction company in 2007 and then was elected to the City Commission of Miramar, Florida in 2011. In 2015, he was elected mayor and then re-elected in 2019. Messan and his wife Angela have three children.
Wayne Messam announced on March 13, 2019 that he was forming an exploratory committee and then formally declared his candidacy for the Democratic nomination on March 28, 2019.
